he unique weaving technique used in the creation of these products is extremely demanding and there is currently no technology available that allows for an automated manufacturing of this type of furniture, meaning that each piece is handmade from start to finish, thus allowing for the emotions of the weaver to become part of the design. As a result, each design is unique, each piece of furniture is different and each lace pattern - irreproducible.
Basalt is most common volcanic rock in the Earth’s crust. When mafic lava (the most common kind of lava) cools on the Earth’s surface, it forms basalt, that’s why mafic lava is commonly called ‘basaltic lava’. Basalt is a rock that can lie happily at unbearable temperatures as well in the cool depths of our oceans. Remarkably, when looking at the Moon, the dark spots that can be seen on its sunlit surfaces are the so-called lunar seas that have been formed by basaltic lava floods! In fact, basalt can be found even further than the Moon! Not only does it form a large part of the surface of Mars, but basaltic lava eruptions can also be observed on Jupiter and Venus. These unique chairs are made from the basalt fibre.
How It's Made
Basalt is also extremely useful right here on Earth and it is an excellent material for preserving heat. Nowadays, basalt is used in beauty care, massages with hot stones (basalt stones) and also as an alternative to fibreglass. Our suppliers use hot strips of basalt fibre coated in natural resin on the mould to create a unique pattern and design of each chair. As the process is 100% hand labour it takes anywhere between 14-28 days, on average, between the order and delivery of the product.
Unlike some of the other materials used in the garden furniture manufacturing, which when exposed to the natural elements start to change their appearance and deteriorate in quality. However, basalt fibre material has a unique ageing characteristic, meaning that it gets stronger with time. Therefore, has a strong potential to be used in all sorts of exterior solutions. The unique basalt fibre products don’t need to be protected against sun, wind, or salty seaside water and air.
